Beyond the ordinary

We focus on the structural side of small residential projects: beams, bearings, floor and roof framing, openings in walls, and the temporary works needed while the house is opened up. Drawings are issued in Revit and AutoCAD so the design stays coordinated from first sketch to steel delivery.

Webster Construction Ltd is a structural design practice for modest residential work — not large commercial frames. Most of our jobs are loft conversions and single-storey extensions on existing two-storey houses. 

We model the structure in Revit, issue 2D construction drawings from AutoCAD, and prepare calculations for Building Control. Where the build needs it, we also specify scaffolding and temporary works: propping, needle beams, temporary ridge support, and sequence notes so the house stays stable while steels go in.

The aim is simple: a clear package the contractor can build from, and a justification Building Control can accept.

Loft conversions

Structural scheme for the new floor, roof and dormers. Typical package includes:

  • UC / UB steel beams and ridge beams
  • Spreader plates and bearings
  • Joists, trimmers, purlins and rafters
  • Openings for stairs and roof windows

Calculations and sketches for Building Control

Single-storey extensions

Design of new walls, roofs (including flat roofs), steel or timber beams over openings, and how the extension ties back into the existing house.

 

Structural alterations

New openings in load-bearing walls, beam-and-padstone details, removal of chimney breasts, and checks on existing masonry.

Revit and AutoCAD

  • Revit model of the proposed structure
  • General arrangement and detail drawings in AutoCAD
  • Steel schedules and setting-out suitable for fabrication
  • Updates when site conditions change

Scaffolding and temporary works

Design and sketches for:

  • Temporary support to ridges and gables
  • Propping and needle beams during steel installation
  • Scaffold loads where they affect the structure
  • Sequence of works so temporary timber is not left as a permanent bearing

Building Control support

Response to inspection comments (for example point loads on steels, bearings, stiffeners). Short engineer’s notes and revised details so open items can be closed.
